Closing a wonderful journey in art therapy
In June 2011, this wonderful therapy group came to a close after 19 sessions filled with emotions and shared experiences. It was an unforgettable journey, not only for the participants but also for me.
Leading this group with Maj-Len was my first exploration of co-therapy—a discovery of the power of working together and the deep mutual trust it creates.
These seven women, all referred for chronic pain and psychosomatic disorders, were given a space to express their feelings, share their stories, and reconnect with themselves through art.
A therapeutic journey over 19 sessions, during which we explored many themes:
Identity and family – A space to express their sometimes complex relationships with loved ones.
The impact of music on emotions – A powerful moment that awakened inspiration and encouraged letting go.
Wounds and resilience – Through painting and sculpting, they gave form to what could not be put into words.
The power of the group – Each woman found unique support, a judgment-free space, and a deep connection with others.
The group's feedback was overwhelmingly positive: many experienced better emotional regulation, increased self-confidence, and a sense of relief from their pain.
A big thank you to Maj-Len Radmans, who taught me so much without even needing words, and to Enheten för Psykosomatisk Medicin in Västerås for making this journey possible!
As for me, I had to step away from the group to give birth. The sessions continued, and I rejoined in September until Christmas, but it was never quite the same. For me, the circle had already closed in June.
