My very first article on dyslexia
In 1998, while I was still a student at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, I published my very first article on dyslexia in the local newspaper, Chronika Dramas, of my hometown, Drama, in Northern Greece. At the time, I was deeply excited and curious to learn more about learning difficulties, and especially fascinated by the incredible abilities of people with dyslexia.
What struck me the most was how dyslexic individuals often think and create in beautifully unique ways. I felt a strong urge to share this understanding with others. It wasn’t just about raising awareness, it was about honouring a different way of being in the world.
During my studies at the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, I had the privilege of being taught by a professor who was truly a pioneer in the field of dyslexia, Dr. Pavlidis, who never looked at dyslexia as a problem to be fixed, but as a difference to be embraced.
I’m sharing with you that very first article in greek. It may have appeared in a small-town newspaper, but for me, it marked the beginning of a lifelong journey, one filled with creativity, connection, and a deep commitment to supporting people with challenges.
